November 2009
Dear Parents,
We are so fortunate here at Sequoya! We have tremendous students who come to school everyday eager and ready to learn. We have dedicated teachers and staff members who continue to give 110% of themselves. Their focus continues to be our students, teaching and learning. Finally, we have our wonderful APT and community members whose unwavering support of our school is unbelievable. Our students, our staff members and our community members make for a winning combination that continues to keep Sequoya the very special school that it is.
Character counts at Sequoya and every month we select a Pillar of Character to focus on. For November, Caring is the Pillar of the month. Our Student Council under the guidance of Mrs. Bonnie Miller and Mrs. Michele Gibney are sponsoring several activities that foster caring within our school community. They are taking the lead in having our school collect Pop Tabs to help support the Ronald McDonald House. Student Council is also sponsoring a canned food drive to help families in need. Finally, Student Council is sponsoring “Walk on Nitalia’s Team.” Mrs. Terri Lee and Mrs. Juli Maryhew will be helping this fundraiser. All proceeds will be donated to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
During the months of October, November and December, Sequoya students will be working with Mrs. Jane Metzger our Artist in Residence. Students will be designing tiles out of clay. The focus will be on science concepts from the science curriculum. We thank Mr. Fatica for giving up his time and room so our students can have this creative experience.
The Western Round up was a roaring success. We had singing, dancing, good food and lots of fun. It was wonderful to see so many members of our community take part in this APT sponsored community event. The poster contest brought out the artistic abilities of our students. We were amazed by the quality of the posters and judging was extremely difficult. As far as I am concerned, all students who participated are winners.
We have had a very productive first quarter and are well into a very successful second quarter filled with learning and fun. On behalf of the faculty and staff of Sequoya, I want to wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving.
Sincerely,
